007 First Light: Live-Service Elements Teased
IO Interactive, the developer behind the Hitman series and the upcoming James Bond game 007 First Light, has indicated that the Bond title may incorporate live-service elements inspired by the World of Assassination trilogy. Studio CEO Hakan Abrak suggested that the team’s experience extending single-player games with free, desirable content could translate to the Bond project, though he stressed that delivering a complete, impactful single-player journey remains the primary goal before any post-launch plans are enacted.
One of the most prominent live-service features in Hitman World of Assassination is the elusive targets system: time-limited assassination missions that originally disappeared forever on failure, later re-run via the Elusive Target Arcade. Abrak told The Game Business that applying such lessons to 007 First Light is a natural next step. “We obviously have tons of experience now from World of Assassination, and tons of experience on how to extend a single-player experience by giving desirable free content to players,” he said. He added that while the first objective is to deliver the best possible journey for gamers, “you could expect that we’ll be applying some of our learnings from World of Assassination to Bond.”
Bond’s tone and gameplay will differ significantly from Hitman’s methodical stealth. Abrak acknowledged that James Bond is more kinetic and action-focused, offering challenges beyond what Agent 47 faces. “That gives us more challenges to play with… besides the things that we are able to do in Hitman, we can do more actiony things and more kinetic challenges in Bond,” he said.
